Punjabi Rajma

A very popular and authentic Punjabi gravy made with red kidney beans, tastes excellent with steamed rice.

Ingredients

  • 2 cup Kidney Beans (Rajma) (soaked overnight & boiled)
  • 1/2 cup Onion paste
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger paste
  • 1 tablespoon Garlic paste
  • 1/2 cup Tomato puree
  • 1 tablespoon Coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon Red Chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon Kashmiri Mirch powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Dried mango powder (Aamchoor)
  • 1 tablespoon Poppy seeds paste (Khus-Khus)
  • 1 teaspoon Garam Masala powder
  • 1/2 cup Milk
  • 1/2 cup Oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Green coriander for garnishing
  • Ingredients for Tadka:
  • 2 piece Green Cardamom
  • 1 piece Black Cardamom
  • 1 Long stick Cinnamon
  • 2 piece Cloves
  • 2 piece Bay leaves

Method

  • Heat oil in a pan. Crackle all the tadka Masalas. Add onion paste, ginger-garlic paste, coriander powder, red chili powder, kashmiri mirch powder and poppy seeds paste. Bhuno it.
  • Mix tomato puree and bhuno it till oil is separated. Gradually add milk and keep bhuno it. Add boiled Rajma, salt, dried mango powder, garam masala powder and 1½ cup water. Cook on low flame for 8-10 minutes.
  • Garnish with green coriander and serve hot.
